Be sure to read the entire Race Details page in addition to this FAQ to make sure you have all the necessary info about The Smuttynose Rockfest Half Marathon & 5k!

Packet pickup/registration is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. on Sunday (the morning of the race). Regardless of which day you pick up your gear, we suggest arriving to the race no later than 6:30 a.m. to ensure you have time to park, stretch, and get to the starting line before 8 a.m.
Half marathoners should plan to line up in the start corral by 7:45 a.m., while the 5k runners should line up in their corral by 8 a.m.
The time limit for the 5K is 45 minutes. The Half Marathon course time limit is 3 hours & 15 minutes. This is about a 15 minute per mile pace. We have strict rules from the State DOT and the towns about how long the course can be open. Participants found on mile 6 on the course at a slower rate than 15 minutes per mile will be asked to turn around and head back to the finish. They will still get a time and medal.
Because wearing headphones greatly reduces your ability to hear race marshals and car traffic, we strongly discourage their use on the course. Baby strollers or any other pushed equipment are not allowed*. Dogs are not allowed in the race, and are prohibited from going on the beach. *Wheelchairs and other disabled push strollers are allowed, but please contact us to let us know you are coming.
There are State Park bathrooms near the Sea Shell Stage, at the North and South beach bath houses, and at Miles 4, 6.5, and 11.
There will be porta-potties at packet pickup, at the water stops, and throughout the festival area.

Half:  There will be water stops at Miles 2, 4, (+Gatorade) 6.5, Energy Gel, 8.5 (+Gatorade), and 10.5.
5k:  There will be one water stop at Mile 2.

Yes, There will be a bag check tent near the packet pickup area and you must return there to pick up your bag after the race. Articles of clothing that are left unclaimed after the race will be donated to a local homeless shelter. Loco Races is not liable for any losses or theft that may occur. Please be sure to pick up your bag by noon.
There are no changing facilities available, so please show up ready to run.
For both the Half and 5k, prizes are awarded to the top 3 men and women finishers overall, and to the top 3 men and women in the following categories: 18 & Under, 19-29, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70+. Prizes will not be mailed and must be picked up at the red “Awards” tent after the race.
The half marathon course is certified and accurate according to USATF standards. However your GPS measurement of the course is bound to be different and will most likely show the distance covered to be “long.” This is normal, and here’s a very technical explanation why: In GPS We Trust.
Yes, you may elect to drop down from the half marathon to the 5k. There will be no rebate or price difference. Please contact linda@locorunning.com ASAP if you’d like to switch.
We’re sorry, but there are no refunds, transfers or deferrals.
Fleece are available in women’s (S-XL) and men’s (S-XXL) sizes. You select a size during online registration but we allow you to choose a different size at packet pick-up because we know that sometimes they fit a little differently than you expected. However, because people can change their minds at the last minute, we don’t actually know how many of each size to order. We do our best to estimate (and we even order extras), but sometimes we run out of a particular size. So, if it’s really important that you get a specific size, be sure to arrive at packet pick-up as early as possible on Saturday.
Fleece will not be mailed out.
Since the course is closed to all auto traffic, we strongly suggest that spectators stay right in the beach area for the best viewing. If you watch the start at the intersection of C or D Street and Ashworth Avenue, it’s then a simple 1-minute walk to see the race again at Mile 1, Mile 4, and the finish.
NO SPECTATOR VEHICLES ALLOWED ON OR NEAR THE COURSE – Due to large traffic issues our host towns have asked us to eliminate spectator vehicles on Hampton and North Hampton town roads. Our permit is based on your cooperation with this policy. Please do not jeopardize future races by attempting to drive on the course during the race. Areas along the course will be posted with no parking signs and you may be towed!
Hampton and the surrounding area have many lodging options. Remember to book early, as the beach area completely fills up on this busy race weekend.
