About Rockfest
The Smuttynose Rockfest Half Marathon and 5K is an annual running event held in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire that’s set to celebrate its 19th anniversary in 2026! The event began in 2008 as a relay and half marathon, born out of the desire to create a unique running experience that combined the scenic beauty of Hampton Beach with the excitement of a music festival.
How It Started
The event was originally created and organized by LOCO Sports, a New Hampshire-based company that specializes in organizing running and triathlon events. The inaugural event brought in over 1,200 runners who braved the cold and windy weather to run along the scenic coastal route.
In 2009, the relay race was dropped, and a full marathon course was added. The full marathon course ran for four years successfully before it was dropped in 2014 due to various city concerns. A short time later in 2015, a new 5K course was introduced, which took runners along the Atlantic Ocean and through the town of Hampton.
How It’s Going
Rockfest is the largest running event in New Hampshire and attracts more than 6,000 runners and spectators each year! This year’s Smuttynose Rockfest Half Marathon & 5K courses will bring runners along the coastal New England shoreline with on-course music along the way.
A rockin’ after party featuring craft-style Smuttynose beer (21+), multiple live bands, and fan favorite lobster rolls will be waiting for runners at the famous Sea Shell Stage once you cross the finish line!
